A Beginner’s Guide to Butt Plugs

Would it surprise you to hear I don’t know much about butt plugs? Not all gay men are into butt stuff, and as a very happy side it’s something I’ve not explored hugely. But having looked at all that masturbating sleeves can do recently, I thought I should to broaden my experience and try one. Or three.

In this article, I’m sharing what I’ve learned. And not just for all the guys out there. Some of my conclusions apply to anyone with a butthole. And if you’re a woman keen to encourage anal play or pegging with your male partners, you’ll find a butt plug could be a good way to start things out.

Where do you start with butt plugs?

There is one key word when comes to butt plugs: lube. You can never have enough lube when it comes to inserting toys up your rear end. And it’s best to apply to both your hole and your toy.

While I’m at it, another big lesson: house-hold objects are a no-no. I’ve read those embarrassing emergency–room stories, and I wanted to avoid becoming one at at all cost! Size does matter

I’ve always felt daunted whenever I looked at the range of butt plug sizes on the market. I’d think “OMG, that goes up there?” and stop browsing! So I knew I had to start small.

I began with B-Vibe’s Snug Plug 1 because its compact size appealed to me. I’d used a couple of anal toys/prostate massagers in the past and they’d been of similar diameter. Which meant I could probably manage it. When I picked it up I found the Snug Plug’s ultra-smooth silicone was amazing to the touch. I could also see that its rounded edges would make it very easy to insert.

This Snug Plugs, unlike many beginner butt plugs, have a weight inside them. I never quite knew why, however once  it was inside me, I felt it immediately! The weight really added a gentle pressure against my prostate – and gave me that fullness feeling I had read about.

And unlike my prostate massager, I found I could just insert the Snug Plug and then leave it in. Walking around with a hands-free toy inside me did at first feel a little odd – albeit not at all uncomfortable. And it wasn’t long before any initial hesitation turned to fascination and, yes, arousal. It was funny, I didn’t immediately get hard but I was so turned on. Should you try a butt plug? My answer is yes. For all of the reasons above, and more.

Yes, they can be daunting – I’m still unsure whether I’ll try the largest butt plug in the Adam and Eve kit. But they really do up the experience of solo pleasure, and they’ve made me keen to combine anal play with wanking on a regular basis. Whether I’ll be one of those people who enjoys taking the train to work while having a butt plug up them, I’m not convinced – but never say never!

Butt plugs are honestly so easy to use, especially the non-vibrating ones. These have no batteries or charging required, and their size means they can easily be kept in a drawer, or they can be thrown into a bag for any trips. I love taking my self-love on the road! And there’s no telltale buzzing if others are in close proximity.
