What Are Luxury Sex Toys?

Vibrators that are actually worth the money

What defines luxury? It is price? Maybe, but that’s not enough. Luxury is a much broader concept, especially when it comes to sex toys.

The idea that luxury refers to only expensive items is old-fashioned. Plus, expensive does not always bestow a symbol of luxury.

Luxury, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. And those beholders aren’t who they used to be.

Lelo’s Ora 3 Clitoral Vibrator captures the luxe feel of the designer Swedish brand.

Consider a recent worldwide survey of more than 5000 high-income luxury consumers, which looked at differences in attitude and behaviour towards luxury across the United States of America, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, China and Mexico. One of the main findings was that around 75 per cent of all respondents said, “luxury has a different meaning today than it did to my parent’s generation”. (1)

Globalisation combined with advances in digital technology have created a boarder, multidimensional understanding of what luxury is.

The survey showed that long-held markers of luxury, such as price, comfort and elegance, remain so around the world, but through the lens of a modernised set of aspirations and lifestyle goals.

Much like they have for generations, today’s consumers are using luxury purchases to help differentiate themselves from others, and to help embody their values. Indeed, two-thirds or more of respondents in the US, UK and UAE agreed with the statement that “luxury goods and services are about differentiating myself from others”, while 90 per cent of those in China and Mexico did too.

But unlike earlier generations, other survey responses indicated that their luxury purchases are not necessarily the most expensive, suggesting that today’s shoppers are re-evaluating their priorities.

So, what is driving their spend?

High on the list is being an early adopter of new tech tools and applications: more than half of respondents in the US and UK said it was either likely, or very likely, that they adopt the latest apps and online services before their friends. The interest in tech was even stronger in China, Mexico and the UAE where two-thirds or more identified with the same statement.

Wellness apps for truly unique experiences

Cutting-edge technology is no longer just nice to have, it is an increasingly important feature of luxury products.

At the same time, luxury consumers are also demonstrating a growing demand for wellbeing products and services. In fact, nearly three-quarters or more of all survey respondents said they either agreed or strongly agreed that physical and emotional wellbeing is their focus now more than ever.

Ironically, this may be tied to the growing stresses created by modern technology, which then comes to the rescue. How many times have you felt constant notifications and pressure to be connected take a mental toll only to turn to an app for help? I know I’m not alone.

Well, luxury brands have taken note and the link between ‘disconnecting’ and wellbeing is appearing more and more in their products and services. Taking it a step further is the rise of personalised luxury, with smart tech features allowing consumers to create unique experiences.

Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in the world of sex toys.

Increasingly, sex toys are allowing adults to not only set themselves apart from their peers, but also enhance their overall wellbeing, provide access to one-of-a kind experiences and shape their identity. This is luxury. The new luxury. And it goes beyond expensive purchases.

Introducing the Curvy women’s sex toy range by best-selling brand Satisfyer.

Satisfyer Curvy 1 Plus Clitoral Vibrator
Satisfyer’s Curvy 1 Plus Clitoral Vibrator is app-compatible, opening more play options.

This innovative product line of clitoral stimulators uses air pulse technology and vibration to stimulate the clitoris touch-free, without direct contact.

The toys differ slightly in material composition, but both resemble half a banana with a donut-shaped small head built into the flat end. Users simply place this opening over the clitoris and push buttons on the curved handle to enjoy different modes of pulsation or vibration, separately or simultaneously, thanks to the two independent motors.

What separates the Curvy 1+ and Curvy 2+ from similar toys, such as Satisfyer’s Pro 2 Plus Vibration, is that they can be used with the Satisfyer Connect app.

Up to four compatible toys can be used simultaneously, across geolocations, so you and your intimate partner can share your pleasure no matter where you are. The app even supports chat, call and video functions for increased intimacy.

There’s even an alarm function so you can start your day with play, your way. Now that is luxury.

Iconic objects of desire, yours to display!

For those luxe toy lovers who’d prefer to keep their action offline, few do it better than Lelo. This Swedish brand started with a simple question: “What if our most intimate items were made as beautiful as the ones we displayed with the most pride?”

What followed was an ever-growing line of refined and iconic objects of desire for women, men and couples, and a heritage based on quality, unexpected innovation and being entirely different.

Among Lelo’s best-sellers is sextech toy, the Sona 2 Cruise. This clitoral stimulator is shaped like an orgasmically arched female back, with a cup on the concave side to hug the clitoris. Made from premium silicone with exquisite rose gold metal accents, it’s as beautiful to behold as to use.

Lelo Sona Clitoral Stimulator
Lelo’s Sona is a luxury clitoral stimulator that uses air technology.

Sona 2 Cruise delivers fast yet gentle sonic waves to stimulate the entire clitoris, even what’s under surface, deep inside the body. There are 12 settings and their unique pulsations remain constant during use so you experience no drops in power. Then it gets personal – when you press Sona 2 Cruise hard against your body, the power it’s been saving is unleashed for an intense, deep release. Sounds like, no make that feels like, luxury to me.

Joining Lelo and Satisfyer in the land of luxe are sex toy brands, including We-Vibe, Womanizer, Le Wand and B-Vibe. Whatever your sexual needs and wants, you’ll find a toy with luxe features to suit.

As I said in the beginning, luxury is in the eye, or in the case of sex toys, the body of the beholder.

While price may still indicate a luxury item to some point, the concept of luxury is multi-dimensional and encompasses so much more. It could be about setting you apart from others, defining your identity or allowing for unique experiences that support your wellness, goals and lifestyle.

Define luxury – and luxury sex toys – in your own terms and you aspire to the riches you desire.
